Apple Is Piloting Extended AppleCare+ Eligibility at Select Apple Stores in the U.S, Canada
Select Apple Stores based out of the United States and Canada are piloting a new program that allows users to purchase AppleCare+ even after 60-days from the purchase date. It has been revealed that the pilot program has begun earlier this week.
Apple is rolling out the pilot program in about 50 stores in the United States and 29 stores in Canada. At this point in time, we are not sure as to how many days Apple will run this pilot. The folks at MacRumors confirmed the pilot project by contacting an Apple Store. In all likelihood, the pilot program is valid for the iPhone and iPad. It is not known, whether it extends to other Apple products like Apple Watch and AirPods.
Typically AppleCare+ offers two or even three years of extended hardware warranty, the duration depends on the type of device. It also covers two incidents of accidental damage wherein you are required to pay a nominal service charge.
The pilot program will add AppleCare+ to your device only after thorough inspection and diagnostics. Needless to say, you are required to book an appointment with the Genius Bar to get extended coverage. Furthermore, the program allows you to add AppleCare+ to a device that is purchased between 61 days up to a whole year. That being said, the pilot program might not see the light of the day and end up being scrapped.
AppleCare+ is a great way of ensuring that your device is covered for accidental damages. The Apple Care warranty is valid only for defects and is often referred to as a limited warranty. It covers any defects beyond the user’s control. However, AppleCare+ covers limited incidents of accidental damage and also lets you add loss and theft coverage for the iPhone.
