Uber Eats Adds Apple Pay Support
Getting food delivered is easier than ever before thanks to services like Uber Eats. And if you prefer to make purchases with Apple’s mobile payment option, Apple Pay, you can finally use the app to do just that.
Uber has supported Apple Pay for quite some time (since 2014 to be exact), but the food delivery arm of the service has been missing the feature up until today. TechCrunch has the report out on Wednesday, confirming that Apple Pay is now an official payment option for food delivery with Uber Eats.
“Apple Pay has been a payment option in Uber’s app since fall 2014, but the payment option hadn’t made its way over to Uber’s food delivery app, Uber Eats. Now, that’s changing. Uber today announced that users who want to use Apple Pay can finally do so using FaceID or TouchID in the Uber Eats app, instead of filling out their billing information.”
Of course, this means that the basic security elements of Apple Pay are in place, including the fact that credit card numbers aren’t stored on the device or Apple’s own servers — or with Uber Eats, either. Order confirmation is handled with Touch ID or Face ID.
The report says that Uber Eats’ support for Apple Pay is rolling out to 20 markets beginning today. Those include “Belgium, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States”.
Apple Pay is already supported in a variety of other delivery apps, including Uber Eats competitor Postmates, Seamless, GrubHub, and others.
Better late than never. Apple Pay should just be a basic requirement in apps that let you buy goods from them, and it’s good to see Uber Eats finally jumping on board.
